Community Living Volunteer Opportunities
There's no end to what you can contribute to enhance the quality of life for Community Living residents of all ages by becoming a volunteer.
Volunteers set their own schedule.
One-on-one outings with residents:
Go to the movies, out to eat, to a museum, for walks in the park, be a friend for a concert, rent a movie and make popcorn, a trip to an amusement park, walk the mall, watch television together, have coffee, fish, attend church, watch a Keys game, take a walk in the neighborhood, have a picnic at a local park, shoot some baskets
Outdoor/indoor cleanup:
Rake leaves, trim bushes, cut the grass, help with a garden, paint, wallpaper, decorate inside for the holidays, hang Christmas lights
Office work:
Data entry, making photo albums, filing, assisting with mass mailings, etc.
Group outing:
Attend outings as an extra hand or as a friend, help transport residents to and from outings, help to organize outings
Recreational:
Organize basketball, softball, bowling, exercise classes, or other recreational activities
Daily living skills:
Help residents learn skills for cooking, how to phone friends, pet care, table setting/manners, hosting parties or friends for dinner, riding a bus, safety skills
Teaching:
A simple craft, woodworking, latch hook, sewing, knitting, crocheting, golfing and weightlifting
Personal skills:
How to interview for a job, manners in public, hygiene, manicures, applying makeup, how to dress for different occasions
Donating:
Magazines, jigsaw puzzles, cassette tapes (especially country music)
Things one can do at home:
Bake cookies (our residents love snacks, and sugar-free snacks are good too), send birthday card to a resident, make music tapes, sew/hem/mend clothing, bake a birthday cake for a resident (many of our residents do not have a family that is involved in their lives), be a pen-pal, build tables or bookcases for our homes.
