Past Events

This is the part of our web site where we feature stories and images from some of our activities.

The seventh annual Frederick's Oktoberfest was held at the Frederick Fairgrounds September 27 and September 28, 2008, and was a great deal of fun and a success as well! The event is a family festival, with German everything - live music, food, specially brewed beer, crafters, and children’s activities. We were glad to welcome new faces as well as many return visitors….people just can’t get enough of that bratwurst!

Frederick's Oktoberfest 2009 is set for the weekend of Ocotber 3rd and 4th, again at the E-ventplex at the Frederick Fairgrounds.

Community Living Residents have participated in a vast range of activities in the recent past and are constantly planning and active participants in ongoing recreational and volunteer activities.

Our residents have attended Cowboy Christmas and Cowboy Rodeo in the Summer.  They go on cruises and to Disney World.  They go kayaking in St. Mary’s City, snowshoeing at Wisp, to Patsy Cline concerts, to Frederick Keys and Baltimore Orioles games.  Not much stops our clients from doing what they want to do, and we do everything in our power to make their wishes come true.

Recent sporting activities the residents have participated in are:

  • Floor hockey
  • Basketball
  • Ten Pin Bowling
  • Duck Pin bowling
  • Bocce Ball
  • Weight Training
  • Softball
  • Volleyball
  • Track and Field
  • Kayaking

Our Kayakers are absolutely thrilled to be on the water and learning new skills.  They are not afraid of the water (or not too much!) and enjoy learning how to go through the gates.  A number of our residents have attended the State Special Olympics in this event.

We are especially amazed that one of our Clients went to the International Special Olympics for Bocce Ball in 2008.  Well, we weren’t really amazed as we knew of his great skill, but, to go all the way to Beijing! This is a great reflection of his dedication and practice to make it to such a high level.

The last sporting endeavor we really want to draw attention to is that of our Clients that snowshoe.  They take lessons at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in their sand Volleyball court for 90 minutes every week, and if we are lucky enough to get a real snowfall around here will practice extra in the “real stuff”.  They will be attending the Maryland Special Olympics at Wisp in 2009 to see if they bring home more medals than they did in 2008.

Our Clients are also great Volunteers.  They will be staffing a table for the Frederick Marathon (May 3).  They have also painted props for the local ice skating rink and have supported their own by volunteering at many Special Olympics events.

And lastly, our folks are in business for themselves with the Let it Sno! truck!  Let it Sno! is a Sno Cone truck that appears at events here in Frederick County staffed by our clients.  They appear at both company events as well as community events. The profits from Let it Sno! will be directly re-invested into recreational programs, such as the ones described above. If you are interested in having a Not-for-profit snow cone truck with 15 tasty flavors appear at your next event, please contact Carlotta Salter at 301-663-8811 X218 or CarlottaS@communityLivingInc.org.
