Snowflake Campaign
Our Snowflake Campaign is the only fundraising campaign we do for the people we serve. The funds we raise go to help people with the little extras that their own money sometimes cannot do, such as buying cat food, or art lessons, or a pair of Hannah Montana slippers. Tickets to a special concert, an overnight stay in Ocean City, a pair of snow pants so that one can participate in a Special Olympics winter sport are other examples of how Snowflake money is used. Special sheets, money to go out to eat once a month, themed pajamas, or the ability to buy gifts for their house managers are all things that bring smiles to our people's faces.
Every year our Snowflake campaign has a theme. The 2011 Snowflake theme will be "Accessibility". Over CLI's 32 years, we have dealt with a wide range of accessibility issues. The people we serve have had difficulty in getting in and out of vehicles, have been blind, have been deaf, have had issues with spasticity, with walking, with staying upright in wheelchairs, and with bathing. Learning together, the people we serve have participated in sports such as horseback riding, snowshoeing, skating, golf, bocce, kayaking, bowling, floor hockey and many other sports. They have learned how to maneuver around the homes they live in and participate fully in activities of daily living. There is little that stops them!
Our Snowflake campaign begins the last Friday in November but is open for contributions any time. If you would like further information, or would like to contribute, please contact Sarah Matthews at 301-663-8811 X203 or sarahm@communitylivinginc.org |
